All About Soy

Soy wax candles have a multitude of benefits over traditional, cheap, parrafin-based candles.

Fox & Bee | Crystal Coast | Handpoured Natural Soy Candle | Australia

Soy candles:

...are made fom soyabean, which is bio-degradable and renewable

...do not emit any harmful toxins or carcinogens when burnt like traditional parrafin candles

...are soot free when they burn, eliminating any black residue left on the glass jar or around your home.  (Any black that does occur is the result of the cotton wick being too long when burnt - it wipes off from the glass with a tissue)

...last up to 50% longer than parrafin candles

...burn at a cooler temperature than traditional candles, making them safer to use in your home

...have a much purer scent-throw, meaning you smell the fragrance and not the wax

Also, the wax in soy candles is water soluble and very easy to clean.  All of our glass jars can be washed and re-used after you have burnt your candle.

  • How do I burn my candle to get maximum burn time?
Always burn the candle long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the outside of the jar but no longer than 4 hours at a time. Before using next time -trim the wick, to prevent uneven burning and high flames making soot on the jars.
  • What sort of wax is used in our candles?
We only use 100% quality soy wax in our candles and also in our melts.
  • What is the best way to extinguish the flame of a candle?
Extinguish the flame by pushing the lid back on the jar rather than blowing it out. This means the fragrance in the room won't be ruined by the smell of smoke from the wick-alternatively if you have a wick dipper -dip the wick in the candle wax and pull it straight out.

  • How to care for your soy candle?
There are a few main rules that apply when burning and looking after your beautiful soy candle. Always burn the candle long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the outside of the jar. Otherwise, a downward tunnel will be created in the wax. This will be very hard to correct and will significantly decrease the burn time of your candle. Allowing the wax to melt to the outside of the jar allows maximum fragrance-throw from the candle. Ensure the flame is centred, so the wax is not melting more on one side than the other. If the wick has bent over, push it back into the centre, using something long and non-flammable. It is advisable to trim your wick from the previous burn before re-lighting, particularly if there is any "mushrooming" at the top of the wick. This will reduce the soot created from the wick (the wax itself does not produce any soot). Trim to 0.5 - 1cm length. Be careful not to over trim or the flame won't be large enough to melt the wax to the edge again. Any soot created from the wick can be wiped off the jar once the flame has been extinguished. Extinguish the flame by pushing the lid back on the jar rather than blowing it out. This means the fragrance in the room won't be ruined by the smell of smoke from the wick.
  • What is the best advice for candle safety?
Do not leave burning candle unattended. Keep away from children. Keep away from drafts. Do not burn candle on or near anything that is flammable. Caution - container may become hot when candle is burning. Jars are glass and will be sharp if broken. Do not burn for longer than 4 hours at a time. Cease from burning when wax level falls below 1cm.
